In 2023 I got diagnosed with EDS myself, after years of chasing a diagnosis. Many doctors, tests and a lot of insecurities later I finally got to a rheumatologist who diagnosed me within 30m because the signs were so obvious. They even apologized it took so long to get to them and that they also feel helpless in the system sometimes. Unfortunately many doctors will exhaust all options before EDS is even put on the table and often it’s the patient themselves who has to fight for the diagnosis or referral. I remember the grief I felt after finally being seen and heard and the anger as to why it had taken so long when the diagnosis was so obvious. I am not alone in this feeling and next to the diagnostic process, living with EDS is also a challenge. Many healthcare specialists do not know enough about the condition to provide adequate care and often patients are left to search for their own help and find something that actually helps if they are lucky. With this fundraiser I hope to be able to help raise awareness about EDS and help raise funds for the EDS Society so they can continue their work in providing valuable resources for both people trying to get a diagnosis, people living with EDS and healthcare professionals to get better at providing the care that is needed.
